Stage 1 Water Conservation – Voluntary Measures Now in Effect
Members:
We would like to inform you that the Brazos River Authority (BRA) has announced the implementation of a Stage 1 – Drought Watch Condition for multiple lakes within the Brazos River basin, including Stillhouse Hollow Lake, which serves as a source of water for our system.
As a result, Stage 1 voluntary water conservation measures are now in effect immediately.
The goal of Stage 1 under the BRA Drought Contingency Plan is to:
- Raise awareness of developing drought conditions
- Achieve a voluntary 5% reduction in water usage compared to normal conditions
Due to ongoing drier-than-normal conditions in the Brazos River basin, we are asking all customers to assist by using water wisely and reducing non-essential water use wherever possible.
How You Can Help:
- Limit outdoor watering (lawns, landscaping)
- Avoid washing vehicles at home unless necessary
- Repair leaks promptly
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
- Turn off water when not in use (brushing teeth, shaving, etc.)
While these measures are voluntary at this stage, your participation is essential in helping preserve our water supply and avoid more restrictive measures in the future.
Additional information on the implementation of the Stage 1- Drought Watch Condition can be found in the BRA plan, which is available on their website at https://www.brazos.org under About Us – Water Supply – Drought – Drought Contingency Plan. Current drought information is also located on the website at http://www.brazos.org/About-Us/Water-Supply/Drought
We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to conserving water.
